Overview:

For staff to have an opportunity to discuss and develop their understanding about the needs of individuals with dementia and how those needs are expressed through actions.
"Why do people do that?"

Aimed at:

" Care staff involved in the day to day care and support of adults with dementia.
" Front line senior staff working to support adults with dementia and their carers.

" The dementia equation
" Looking at what creates the symptoms of dementia
" Carers role in reducing those symptoms
" The brain and behaviour
" The roles of different areas within the brain
" How damage in one area can affect the actions of other parts of the brain
" Well-being and ill-being
" Looking at what we need as individuals and recognising that others have the same needs
" Discussion: how to translate the theory into care in the community- balancing needs and rules
