This course is for staff in residential care / nursing homes and those providing care in the community who may be called upon to undertake training and assessment of manual handling tasks.  The course will equip participants with a thorough knowledge of the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 which came into force on 1 January 1993, and the prescribed method by which employees can minimise the risk of injury while undertaking manual handling operations in the course of their normal duties.

On completion of the course participants will be able to demonstrate:

• A knowledge of the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992
• An ability to understand a manual handling risk assessment form
• A knowledge of the various categories of manoeuvres for assisting clients / patients in line with the Royal College of Nursing Code of Practice
• An ability to carry out manual handling tasks to laid down procedures
• An ability to make use of manual handling equipment provided
• An ability to train other staff in safe manual handling procedures
